I attract them all!
15 September, 2004
When I went to Six Acres there was a certain boy there who stayed with me most of the time and then a couple of weeks afterwards was walking past our house and recognised the car so decided to call in. Now I’m trapped! We have a cunning plan to try and see him off though. Fingers crossed it works 😉
Anyway, the reason I brought that up is because today was the second time I’ve been somewhere new and the second time I’ve attracted unwanted male attention! It’s not as if I’m attractive or anything…
So I woke up really early this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, eventually I drifted off briefly and drempt about Selworthy, surprisingly! Didn’t last long and I was still awake far too early. We left the house just before 9am and arrived at Selworthy perfectly timed; we passed two of the mini buses and a taxi just outside the school. We were aiming to be there around 9am but to miss all the transport, almost all (if not all) the pupils arrive by minibus or taxi.
We left school and drove up to Yeovil, to Lufton College. There were two other schools due and we were the first to arrive. Everyone got their visitor passes with their names on and then after having drink and biscuits (whilst we waited for the other schools) we all went into a hall thing to listen to the introduction. One of the other schools still hadn’t arrived but we’d been waiting quite a long time so they decided to crack on anyway. After the introduction Selworthy split into two groups, with a staff member and a current Lufton student with each group. We’d brought the 9 kids, 4 staff (Martine, Denise, Di (assistant) and Phil) plus mum & I. Sonia, Joy, Rachael and Robert went into one group with two staff and mum and I, the other 5 and remaining two staff went into the other group.
When we’d been having a drink in the other room one of the Lufton students (who’s name was Daniel) had approached me twice and tried to drag me into the other room, calling me Carla which was a bit disturbing and I don’t know where he got that from! He wasn’t trying to get any of the others so I thought that was a bit ominous. When we were told that he would be the student with Selworthy I thought \”oh no\” 😉 There were 4 students so we had a 1 in 4 chance…Then the lady went on to say that another student (Chris – female) would be with another group, also Selworthy. Of course with my luck I was in the same group as Daniel!
We started our tour and he persisted in walking by me trying to talk to me about things all the time and ask if I was ok and did I need any help with this and that..etc. We went up and saw the pottery bit and car valeting place, then we stopped for a loo break and on our way back down to the farm we passed the other Selworthy group. I seized the opportunity and swapped groups! I think Phil and Di were quite amused…It meant I missed the farm animals and had to do the pottery and car bits twice but it was worth it! I talked to Phil most of the time anyway. I managed the whole morning with only slight wheeziness and pins and needles 😆
After that we went and sat outside to eat lunch, before I started mine one of the staff came up and asked if I’d like to go round the farm, of course I didn’t 😉 So we went down – they have friendly pigs! The goats were sunbathing on the rocks…Lovely smell of mice (domestic), I haven’t smelt in over 3 years! The pigs liked a good scratch, we were down there quite a while. She has 3 horses so she was telling me all about them – a 30yr old something I can’t remember, a Welsh Section B x Thoroughbred which she does driving with and a Welsh Section D x Arab.
By the time I got back they were well through their lunch, a lot had finished, but everyone was sitting around talking so I was ok. Then Daniel reappeared and kept trying to help me with everything! He was talking and offering to help with this that and the other, Phil was sitting close by and he was laughing, at least he found it amusing 😆 After Daniel tried to help me open my biscuit I ran off and sort protection from Di and Phil again! That worked, thankfully.
After lunch we got back in the bus (or car in my case) to go home. Phil and Di disappeared for ages doing something, in which time Daniel came to talk and say good bye. Did that, all’s well! Waited still longer for Di and Phil to come back and then Daniel reappeared to speak to me again! Then they came back so we could go – Di & Phil did a lot of saving me today 😉
We were meant to stop at the farm and have a look round before we set off home, but Di took the wrong turning 😆 so we just went straight back to school. Wednesdays are usually Cannington and whilst Di’s class are out one of the other classes comes in to use their classroom to cook (it’s rather like a self contained flat), but as we’d been to Lufton today we were back a bit earlier and they weren’t finished, so everyone went outside to play and they wanted me to come too, so we went across to reception to fetch a few things for the classroom that had only just arrived and then spent a little while outside and played tag. By then the other class had finished so they went back into the classroom for drink and biscuits and we chatted. I had a nice conversation with Robert and Simon (two of the new ones) about Cannington as they haven’t been yet. Most pleasant, they’re certainly a lot more able than all but one of last years leavers.
Di (teacher) wasn’t there today, she’s on a(nother!) course – the joys of deputy headship – so after they’d gone through for assembly mum asked Phil if we could come in Friday because Di (teacher) was going to ask Jane if it was ok if I came in on Monday afternoon to help with art and we don’t know if it’s ok or not yet. Plus any excuse to go up and see them 😉 So I’m going up Monday morning at about 10:30am just for an hour or so. Should be going to the library…
I think this is probably the longest entry I have every written…I’ll be interested to see how long this actually is when I hit post 😮
Hopefully I’ll have more sorting figures for you tomorrow 😉
