Quick One

23 August, 2004

Just a quick entry cos I wanna go to bed 😉 They’ve organised an activity thing for three days this week (Monday (today), Wednesday and Friday) for 15-20yrs old with learning difficulties at a resource centre for adults with learning disabilities which was closed for the holidays.

We arrived and Joy, Rachael, Daniel and Sonia all leapt on me (not literally ) as they usually do, yelling my name! It was really nice because there are/were 9 kids in Di’s class and 6 of them were there (all 4 that will still be there next year and 2 of the ones that left) plus Thomas, who’s one of the 5 that will be moving up to Di’s class next year so it was almost like a home from home 😉 The morning passed and then we all had our packed lunches.

In the afternoon Sonia, Thomas, Joy and I went down to the light/quiet room, it’s the most incredible place! There’s a water bed (very comfy ) and beanbags, there are two bubble tubes in the corner with mirrors positioned very cleverly so it gives the effect of there being about 8 instead of 2, a glitter ball and a few other lights. The ceiling and walls are all painted dark blue and then covered in those glow in the dark stars.
Before too long some of the others started to come in, and in a room that’s not meant for many people we ended up with mum (who was supervising), Sonia, Thomas, Joy, me, Rachael, Daniel and a boy I don’t know who was called Nico (always makes me think of a black lab we looked after…). With Daniel, Thomas and Sonia together peace quickly dissolved 😉 We had a very entertaining afternoon though!

Pinto!

19 August, 2004

I brought my little hamster home today 😀

So guess what the rest of this entry is going to be about…;)

Photo time!

and again – they do get better, I promise 😉

Costa del Pinto. Not the best light but here…

…we have a different view! It’s a FOP cage, for anyone interested.

Pinto sitting in his food bowl, eating

Pinto eating, again 😉 You can just see his eyes, here

One of my best photos! Front view of him – you can see his stripe.

Last but not least, Pinto eating but looking at the camera!

Hmm!

16 August, 2004

This is not summer. It’s raining. Again! Doesn’t bother me, I like the rain, but still 😉

Joy and Rachael and Sue, their mum, came today. We went for a walk along the canal (the same canal that I wrote about in a previous entry, for Di’s birthday), in the rain! We had intended to go for a walk and then have a picnic, but as it was raining we just went for a walk then came back and ate here. It was very nice, but things always taste better outdoors 😛

Joy & Rachael will be 18 next month and Sue’s hosting an enormous (about 200 people invited, though probably about 100-125 will come) party for them. She’s invited everyone who has had a role in the girls’ lifes over the last 18 years so it sounds like it’s going to be quite an incredible occassion! I think it’s going to be a Disco and Buffet.

We’ve also been invited to a quiz night at Selworthy in October. I love quizzes but I’m hopeless at them, especially that sort 😆

More Guinea Pig News

10 August, 2004

When we went to check on the guinea pigs yesterday evening I discovered Boris had given Molly a little nip, so I decided it wouldn’t be very sensible to leave them together through the night. It was nothing serious and they’d been perfectly happy when I’d checked on them at regular intervals during the day, so I think she’d just got on his nerves!

I went to West Hatch again this morning (rabbits again, then played with some puppies) and I didn’t want them together whilst we were away so we left them in their respective houses till after lunch.

It was nice weather so in the afternoon we got the indoor run out in the garden and put them in, they enjoyed that and no more injuries were inflicted on either piggy!

I put Molly back in the indoor run with Boris this morning and they seem to be settling down okay.

I think they’ll be good friends once Molly calms down a bit – at the moment she is a just a little over-enthusiastic!

*Cough*

Yay, up to date!

8 August, 2004

Yesterday was dad’s day to go up to West Hatch so I went to do my cat grooming in the morning instead of the afternoon. Mum came too, because I didn’t feel confident enough to go without her! 😆

Jackie gave me a list of cats and kittens to groom and a brush and comb, so with that I got to work! I went down the list and was finished just in time for break.

After break I helped Orla (I think that spelling is wrong) walk some dogs, we only got slightly damp.

Before we came home we went to look at the guinea pigs, ended up coming home with a ten month old neutered male called Boris . He’s tort and white and Anita let us take him straight home (as opposed to having homecheck..etc).

Molly had been very lonely and quiet since Meg died and she seemed delighted to have another pig (especially a bloke ;))! As they’d only been together a few hours I didn’t want to risk leaving them together overnight, so we separated them for the night.
