It really helps if you tell people when you change the address doesn’t it? Anyway I’ll blog here for today and then give you the address as soon as I sort it out (I tried to make a new layout and reinstall and kinda messed it up)
Anyway, today…
I had a hospital appointment at 10:15am so we arrived with about 5 minutes to spare – cutting it fine for my parents! Waited for about 15 minutes and then a la- oh I’d better give you some background info first 😉
About 3 weeks ago I went into hospital for a day, had an ECG, (more) blood tests and they wanted to do an MRI scan on my brain, so whilst I was having that done they asked my spinal consultant (I have scoliosis among other things for anyone not aware) if he wanted my back done too. He said yes.
Ok background info over, back to the story! So we waited for about 15 minutes and then a lady came over and said my consultant wanted some x-rays done. Now with my lack of mobility x-rays are not a very easy experience and as I’d had the MRI done neither of us (mum or I) were expecting yet more x-rays to be done. So we went to the department, the lady on the desk asked me for my date of birth and I looked at her blankly so she said again \”what’s your date of birth?\” At that point I looked hopefully at mum who answered for me – I couldn’t remember my own date of birth! 🙄
Waited a bit again and then went in to have them done, you should have seen the chaos! It was a complete mess, suffice to say it took a lot longer than it should have done, the radiographer had to have about 3 attempts and I was absolutely exhausted by the time we’d finished.
Went back to the waiting room and by this time it was about half eleven (hadn’t even seen my consultant yet and my appointment was 10:15) waited even longer, saw lots of old ladies in wheelchairs (the joys of orthapedics!) and finally at almost 12 o’ clock they called my name and I got to see the elusive man!
His first words to me were \”hello old lady!\” Coz he’s like that – uses the words \”old lady\” an awful lot. Another favourite is \”when you’re an old lady like your mother\”…
He had one of my new x-rays and one of my x-rays from last time up on his light box and as soon as I walked (read drove) in I thought \”gulp, that looks pretty impressive\”. Basically he went on to say it’s not good news and it’s gone out of control! I always knew I should have trained it better as a puppy and kept it on a shorter lead …
Not only do I have a severe curve but I have a (not so severe) twist in it too! I like to do things properly 😛 Which requires an operation sooner rather than later.
I’ll get a letter from the department in the next 10 days which will invite me to come and meet the team. So we shall see then, I suppose 😯
And there ends the saga of my day! I’m absolutely cream crackered so I don’t think I’ll be doing anything for the next few days. At least I don’t have any commitments until 9th June – time to recover!
