An add on from yesterday
07/21/2005
At the beginning of last year (academic – September or Octoberish) Di (assistant) told us that her daughter was dropping one of her A-Levels and thus would be coming up to school to help. Her daughter is a year older than me – 18/upper sixth as opposed to my 17/lower sixth (if I were at school).
Anyway, to remove the middle ramblings and get to the point!
Yesterday she was at school, we were all talking (for 2 hours actually!) and among topics of conversation were what she’d done, what her plans were for the summer..etc. Basically, she’s –
Passed her driving test
Going to take her advanced test
Taken (and hopefully passed) A-Levels
Going to learn to ride a motorbike
Going to Australia over the summer for five weeks
Been doing paid supply at school
There was probably more I can’t remember and this was much better the first time I wrote it, before I deleted it by mistake and had to rewrite it 😉 But I’m extremely jealous of her, especially the last point! I’ve had a crap year and hardly been able to do anything, she’s only a year older and has accomplished so much…much of which I want to do!
Since my birthday I’ve had an overwhelming desire to learn to drive! Don’t know why, I’ve been able to learn since I was 16. Maybe it’s because it’s the age everyone else starts learning…
It’s incredibly frustrating though, whilst anyone else could buy a £300 second hand car I would have to buy thousands and thousands of pounds worth of brand new adapted vehicle and as it’s a depreciating asset I’ll need to be able to drive most days to justify it. Oh life is expensive if you’re disabled!

I can’t believe you’re 17. Makes me feel so old… If you’re getting old then I must be ancient! I’ve known you for what… 3 years? I think you were just turning 15 when we met. Something like 2 weeks before your 15th birthday… or was it your 14th? Ack – the ol’ memory fades when you get old…
Are you feeling old yet? If not I can continue with my YOUR OLD! post… misery loves company *evil grin*
Just don’t tell Anarchy99 – she’s even older. Pratically dessicated. Dessicated coconut. Ok, the rambling is rambling beyond the hills now and should stop.

Yes I am feeling very old thank you very much!
I’ve been speaking to you a bit in your official hat since I was 12 (now that’s scary…) and then I started talking to you properly when I wanted the Springer Club (October 2001) but I think you weren’t on AIM much then so I probably didn’t start talking to you frequently until just before my 14th birthday if it was just before a birthday!

What you’ve said about wanting to learn to drive, was similar to what I thought when I was 17 actually….
That was when I was off school with depression etc. and couldn’t mentally cope with watching a cartoon on TV, yet as soon as I turned 17 I wanted to learn to drive :-/
Eventually I decided that winter to take the theory test anyway, as at least I could cope with that (you don’t have to have lessons to take that), and managed to have lessons when I was 18 and had left school.
It’s a horrible feeling of being left out when everyone around you has learnt to drive though – all my school mates had passed their tests (except one who didn’t agree with cars :-/), before I had even started learning….
