See?! I told you! I fully intended to do it yesterday but I was far too tired so I didn’t. So I’ll stay a day behind and try and cover today tomorrow 😕

So Wednesday – fun (sports) day. Arrived at about half past 12 and had lunch outside, saw a couple of the kids that’ll be in tge class next year. There are 5 leaving and 5 new ones coming up, though one of them has been joining in with some of their activities for a few months to see how he would get on. All boys, though only one of the leavers is a girl anyway.

At about 2:00 everyone went down to the field (my first sports day in about 6 years!) for the action to start. It was done by classes (there are 7 and they’re only small – from about 4 or 5 (the severest) to 8 or 9 in size) and each class devised their own.

One of the classes (all were in wheelchairs) had a race where you had to go over some wood, then over some plastic cake cases, through some \”washing\” (blue plastic sheets hung on string) and under a parachute (being held up) and one of the people pushing nearly made the child fall out of the chair!

I think some of the teachers were rather overenthusastic with their courses and didn’t do risk assesments 😉 There was another and they had to put a chair in a wheelbarrow and run back with it. We were waiting for someone to fall over and impale themselves on a chair leg! A couple did fall over but luckily missed the legs 😮

Why were they carrying chairs in wheelbarrows, you ask? Well four of the classes are in temporary classrooms, which they’re knocking down over the holidays to replace them with…
identical temporary classrooms! (perfectly logical, of course)
And one of the rooms is a double one with two classes in, one in each half. So they did one together and the idea was they were moving the things out of one class and into another – thus the chair moving. There was more to it than that – there was a bit before the chair moving too, had everyone completely confused.
Well, at least everyone around me was confused and the head came over to where I was and said he didn’t understand either!

Then one of the classes had one a bit like ours except they didn’t have to keep coming back, they put on sunglasses, sunhats, arm bands, rubber ring and then a bucket of water which they had to carry down the last bit – most were in wheelchairs so it was a bit wet…

Ours was a relay, you were meant to run to the trowel, bring it back, run back and get a wellington boot, run back, run and get a flowerpot, run back, then run and get a flower and run back. Only despite having practised it 3 times in the morning only about 3 of them actually did it correctly 😆 Most of them just ran all the way down picking up everything at once then came back, one of them did it correctly (with a bit of assistance from a couple of the assistants) but picked up as many of everything as he could carry 😕

It was all incredibly entertaining! After that they had a few races, 11 and under (or under 11s – can’t remember which), 16 and under and 16-60, everyone who took part got ice cream 😀

Despite looking very threatening and showering a bit during lunch the weather was lovely during the afternoon. Dry, not too hot and not cold!

Last weeks of term are excellent 😉 The only bad thing is it means it’s almost the summer holidays 😆
